These photos were not taken anywhere
near the sea or the beach, they were
taken near my home which is about
800 metres form the sea. When the
island was formed it was literally
thrust up from the sea bed and as a
consequence everywhere we walk in
the area I live is covered in
shells.

| The
first time I ever experienced
walking on what is, in some places,
literally a carpet of shells, I
couldn't believe it. The other
fascinating thing is the huge
variety of shells that can be found.
My favourite are some that are like
huge mussel shells which over the
years have welded together and look
like pairs of ears! |
Oranges you expect
to see growing here, but perhaps not
bananas! This is a photo of the well where
we go and get our drinking water. In the not
so distance past there were water sources
like this all over the island but now there
are fewer. The spring water in Zia, in the
mountains is particularly good.
These are just some
of the things that may be of interest to you
and that you may like to learn a little bit
more about.

I can
'tailor make' a trip out for you for
as many or as few hours as you like.
If you just want to spend a couple
of hours looking around the
immediate area then I can advise you
where to go. If, on the other hand
you would like to look a bit further
afield, I can advise you of the best
and most interesting routes to the
old town of Kefalos where village
life is still very much in evidence,
calling in at Antimaxia on the way
to see the windmill and the
traditional house and passing
through 'Plaka' to see the wild
peacocks.

Or perhaps you might
like to go up into the mountain
villages without having to spend the
whole day out. Whatever appeals to
you, please contact me, and either I
will plan the day for you, or I can
accompany you myself.
